The Gema Bhakti 2016 joint exercise sees 136 participants — 79 TNI officers, 54 USPACOM members and civilian representatives from the National Red Cross, National Search and Rescue Agency and the National Disaster Mitigation Agency.
TNI deputy chief of operation Vice Adm. Hardjo Susmoro attended the opening ceremony with directory of the exercise Brig. Gen. Raharyono and other high ranked officers.
USPACOM was represented by its chief of staff Col. Rusty Spray, deputy commander Col. Stephen Logan and exercise director Col. Rudolph Ligsay.
In his speech, Hardjo said Indonesia and the US have established a great partnership as a foundation for the joint exercise.
“The exercise’s goal is to show the cooperation between TNI and USPACOM in mitigating disasters. The exercises are also the means to trade experiences and knowledge, as well as cooperation in natural disaster operations,” he said.
